This job is a PITA!!! Please let me know if I'm crazy, see ???s

-I don't see any other way getting the bushing collars in besides taking the whole damn rack out! True or false? One collar is near fn oil filter, other by oil pan which no way for that one. Bushings went in ok, collars not.
-I can't get the rack to slide out of the frame because the fn fill cap!!! You can't slide to passenger, only to driver. True or false? Now I have to buy a GD 30mm socket?
-I should have had the dealer do this? True or false?

Check this thread. It's tight but I did it on a 99. There are a couple of how to in the thread. I dont think I even jacked up the truck and didn't remove the filter. The rack will move around. I think the pass side needs to be on but loose before doing the driv side. Just remember it was necessary to do it in the right order.

Just wanted to confirm I replaced mine with polypropylene aramid (Kevlar reinforced polymer) and did NOT have to remove the rack. Pounded out old bushings with a long drift through the bolt hole, then worked in the old ones moving the rack around accordingly. 1.5hrs of easy working pace. Guys on here we're making it seem WAY WAY harder than it is! I even made my own bushing seating tool with all thread and nuts/washers to 'pull' the bushings into place.

When my steering rack bushings when out, the hardest part for me was trying to find JUST the bushings for sale! I had someone else do the work.;)
