I was at Slee today get the UCA's installed along with rear control arms (I bent the stock ones:D) and they showed me a bushing issue on my steering rack. Told me it was a minor issue right now and they recommended I live with it for now.

The fact that it isn't urgent is good news and gives me time to look at solutions

The only way Slee has seen this repaired is to buy a remanufactured steering rack from Toyota. Toyota does not sell the bushings on their own

They said there might be a way to repair the bushing, but you have to take the rack out and might as well replace it.

They showed me up on the lift a little side to side (across the tire front) motion and then showed me the bushing moving. It's a sealed bushing. In other words the bushing is not keeping that contact tight so there is some movement. When it gets worse the movement will increase and it will leak a lot.

Here is a picture of the passenger bushing looking in from the tire end side and a FSM diagram marked in yellow at what we are looking at

So one option is to get a reman'd rack and likely is the best answer.

I wanted to see how others have fixed this issue and what the symptoms where when you fixed it

Thanks for the link hoser. I should have searched better. I like that you can do the passenger side bushing without removing the rack

The question I have is aren't the Toyota ones sealed with lube in them? Do you have to lube these regularly?

here is the link to buy the bushing

Found it in this thread

This is an older rack version, but the remove/replace pictures should be similar

be nice to get some pictures or a write-up on replacing my style bushing. Looks like the one I have leaking is the one you can replace without removing the rack

A company called Pedders Suspension over here also makes a kit if people are interested in another source. I just bought their kit but haven't installed it yet so I can't comment on quality.

Might need to spend more time searching. I'm not sure which thread, but someone did write about how they changed out the bushings on your style rack.

Here is a photo of the super pro installation instructions for 03+ MY, which came with the bushings I ordered locally in Aus. If you order here in the US make sure you order the correct ones.

Btw, I have my doubts about whether this vendor is legit, I've tried to order from their site and have gotten no response..

Any other source for this bushings?

Seems Super Pro has finally opened up their US distribution channels, dozens of dealers come up now when you go to the Super Pro home site, select locate dealer, North America. I think OBT were the only distributor for a while, mud name of Northeast Runner? We swapped PMs a while back 'cause he wanted to know why I purchased Super Pro stuff directly from Aus and not him.

Any instructions around for pre 02?
