Hi, I'm in the middle of doing my knuckles and when I removed the two bolts that held the bearing cap, one of the bolt stripped and the thread stripped inside the hole. I tried searching on here, but the thread titles and info was overwhelming with info that I wasn't sure that correspond to what I'm looking or asking for.

Can someone kindly tell me what size pitch & thread I need to re-tap it to. Thanks

You have the bolt, right? Measure it.

It could be M12x1.25. I have an older bolt I could find, but it would take less time for you to measure your own bolt.

BTW, I wouldn't trust fixing the threads. You need a threaded insert.

Pretty sure they are 12mm and 1.25mm pitch

The 12### in the part number indicates 12mm thread I believe.

I would not rely on re-tapping a damaged thread on such a critical part.

At very least, drill & tap it and install a helicoil to restore the thread to the correct size.

Or, replace the knuckle/hub

I agree with what others have said helicoil or replace the knuckle.
Personally I would replace it.
As far as the bolt you can always just take the good one to the hardware store and match it up. Don’t buy a hardware store bolt unless it’s temporary.
I recently purchased a bolt thread/size gauge.
I use it way more than I thought I would super handy and takes all the guesswork out of it.
Should have done it years ago.

The bolts are indeed M12x1.25.

TBH, I could have grab the wrong bolts. All my old knuckle hardware are in a big bag.

Once you figure out the thread size, Helicoil for the repair will work fine.

Can anyone confirm if it's M12x1.25 or 1.50? I'm going to try re-taping it to see if that works. If not, I'll order a new knuckle.

I want to go the most cost-effective route before I drop over $200 on a new knuckle. Thanks!

Refer to post number seven.
The man knows what he’s talking about and I’ve already suggested a way you can confirm it.

if the threads are stripped out i wouldnt waste the time trying to retap it, just go for the helicoil or something similar. if the threads are damaged retapping is going to take additional material and weaken the new threads, if their just kinda boogered up you may be able to use a thread chaser as taht dosnt cut new threads just cleans up whats there
