Steering adjustment screw

Does this screw controls how much the steering goes left or right (other than the steering stops)? This is the screw on top of the steering box. I'm having problems with one of my 80's; is the one with the screw adjusted flush with the nut (bottom picture).

Not sure exactly about this box but i know in the past on other trucks that screw set the backlash of the gears in the box, not the max steer

That adjusts the amount of end-play or "slop" in the steering or how much movement of the steering wheel without movement of the wheels left to right. I would leave this adjustment to someone that knows what they are doing. To tight and the steering box can be trashed. The 80 series is not a race car so live with some play,

The problem is not steering play, is that turns more to the right than to the left, 2.5 turns to the right, 1.5 turns to the left.

You've already checked the steering stops on the knuckles?

Correct me if im wrong, doesnt the 80 have 2 screws on each knuckle that can be adjusted to limit or extend steering ?

The screws look like they are adjustable and they should touch a metal stopper that is welded to the axle.

IF you have more turning in one direction over the other I would check and make sure all of your links are straight.

Already checked these, they are fine.

Was/is the pitman arm centered on the steering box shaft? Has anyone (previous owner maybe?) removed the pitman arm and put it back on "off center?"

You know... There is a possibility, tie rods look new, and the steering box looks like it has a slight leak, Is there a way to know if the Pitman arm was placed correctly?

Corrected today! The pitman was removed and replaced incorrectly by the prior mechanic.

The pitman arm and sector shaft must line up for everything to be kosher.

There are matchmarks on each to line them up.

Yeah, I was also going to comment that that lower picture seems like the box has been replaced and the screw has been messed with using improper tools, etc.
