So are you sure you can just grind the rivets? I was going to try that on a set. has anyone done it?

You have to weld the center section to the outer ring before you shave the rivets!

Or if you are going to widen the wheels, the wheel shop would mate the center to the new ring and once it is all nice and straight, they would weld.

DISCLAIMER: I have never done this personally.

Roger. I was going to have a stocker drum wheel delivered but I don't think it'd be worth the cost of having to dispose of the junk tire.

I recently welded the centers, ground off the rivits, and ground part of the rib next to the center openings on a steel wheel to try it on my 1969 FJ55 with a front mini truck disk conversion and a rear Monte Carlo conversion. They will fit over the mini truck rotors and calipers (barely), but not the Monte Carlo. Wheel spacers? Maby but I don't know how thick. I have talked to people who have ground the edge of the Monte Carlo calipers where they rub. It takes a lot of grinding. That part made me uncomfortable. I poped for a brand new set of 5 steelies for a 1985 FJ40 (Disk brake wheels). They are available from the Toyota dealer.
They look great painted Smoke Gray with a hubcap.
