My FJ40 has been sitting since August when the registration tags expired and I couldn't get it legal (needed a bunch of new parts, which have been replaced since). Anyhow, now it's January, and the truck is back together. I need to start it up, but since it's been sitting for so long I was wondering if I should pull the dizzy, and spin up the oil pump or if I should just try to start it?

Just pull the spark from it and turn the motor over with the started till the oil pressure guage rises and gets the motor all oiled up then give the spark back and start as normal it should be fine. I was told this by a mechanic hope this helps

Thats not even a long time to sit.....I'd certainly turn it over without spark to get it oiled but you'll be just fine otherwise.....unless there were already problems there.....

No problems. Just burned out the points, had a bad header and rusted out exhaust and had to wait a while to get a replacement setup (Now I have both a spare set of points AND a Pertronix setup). I replaced the oil pan back in June witha a new OEM pan and while I was in thereI plastiguaged the mains and rods and everything looked like new... Just don't want to do unnecessary damage to the motor for its long (for me) sit.
