getting ready to put the new plunger and contacts in my 80's starter (thanks c-dan!)... but would like to clean things up a bit before putting it back together... there is a brownish powder (like brake pads) all over the inside of the magnetic side and a like black powder on the brush side....

is there some type of electrical cleaner or something else i can use to remove this stuff?

thanks!

You might want to try a can of compressed air. They are sold at places like CompUSA and used for cleanning out keyboards.
