My 80 was at the garage today having a new front exhaust fitted and the fan belts changed. I got home after picking it up and switched off the engine while I checked the work - all looked good... I tried to start up the truck and all I got was a loud (very fast) clicking.

I guess there is something the matter with the starter motor. The truck has done 86000 miles so it may be due an overhaul., Is it possible tha the work the garage has done could somehow have affected the starter? What is the likely problem with the starter and how can I fix it?

After a couple of attempts the motor started and I got the car in the garage but I have just tried to start it again and it just clicks...

any advice most welcome.

Thanks, Jim

Check your battery connections and connections to the starter, maybe they removed the battery to get to your alternator belts. Does your HDJ-80 have two batteries, and what starter does it have? You may get more responses in the diesel section.
