Ok, I got my new starter contacts and plunger reinstalled early this morning. Hooked everything up, hooked up the battery and (besides the alarm going off!!! I really hate that aftermarket pos) went to fire it up...I am getting the same sound and no start.

It sounds like the starter is just free spinning and not engaging...like zzzzzzzzzvvvvving. Ok thats the best I can do. This is the same sound it made before...

Are they any more servicable parts in there? How about those brass braided brushes? Before getting my parts those were the things I thought I was reaplacing. Should I emory board them down to fresh bright brass??

Any other thoughts or ideas are much appreciated.

 before class...

bump....

I tried jump starting it, thinking the battery may just be weak from sitting...same noise and not start.

Guess I will pull the starter back off...

Is it spinning and not engaging or what?

The plunger is what pushes the gear out to engage the flex plate, sure thats in there correctly?

The engine is not cranking...it sounds like the starter is spinning...but not engaging I guess...

I replaced the contacts and plunger...

It is making the same noise as before, so I guessing I have more than a starter contact problem. I guess the whole thing starter is fried.

Sounds to me like the solenoid is dead...

When you were assembling the contact that was attached to that little wire, you didn't break the wire did you? Might be something to check...

I wonder if you could rob a solenoid off of a used starter and swap it on...

Might be easiest just to pick up a reman. :D

it's prolly the drive then, not the solenoid.
