stalling 86 fj60

Hi everyone,
My cruiser started acting up this morning. It would idle fine on the first five minutes, but if I start driving and when I have to shift down to first gear it would die. 2nd,3rd and fourth gear seems to be fine.
It seems to be happening when I'm slowing down to a stop. At that point the only thing I can do to keep the engine running is by giving it gas. After giving it a few pedals of gas it would not die and it would idle, a little rough but still idle.
I've ordered a fuel filter and I'm going to replace the spark plugs later tonight when the engine cools a little. Any other ideas I should look at?

I just went through a very similar problem.
It ended up being the fuel pump.
