I had painted my manifolds the other evening with POR-20. I read on the can that to cure the paint the temperature has to reach at least 300 degrees. I wanted to put a second coat on, but the thought of placing them on the cruiser then running them up to temperature and taking them off again sounded like a pain in the ass.

So I thought of the oven! Put them on the cooking rack and set the temperature to 450 on convection (bakes more consistent with the convection setting! ha ha)

Started stinkin the house up with toxic fumes when my wife came home early! Ooops

She wasn't too surprised. Went upstairs and watched TV.

Hung the headers out the window to cool them faster so I could paint them. At least I didn't melt the window sill!

ps - they look great!

  !!!!

uh, I think I'd say: :whoops:

good god man!, that's where you cook the food that you eat! holy toxic tacos.....

is your wife still speaking with you?

Seriously, Travis, I'd call up the chemists at POR15 and ask them if what you did is okay. (800) 457-6715 Maybe there is no adhesion and the fumes were the only thing that's toxic; maybe the racks have POR15 on them, in which case you need new racks; maybe that enamel has toxic residue.

My guess is, they're going to tell you not to use that oven for food preparation anymore. :-\ I wouldn't use it until you have an answer.

I really hope, for your sake, that your convection oven was a gift. I know that those ovens are VERY expensive. And make sure when you call POR that say....."uh, I have a friend..."

Good luck.

Look at it on the positive side...we all have to die of something. Sounds like you have a great excuse to eat fried foods!

Just run the self clean cycle when you leave for work, and take the pets with you. Heh, heh. 'Cept the cat(s).

Took me a whole week of half-ass looking before I found an old electric oven on the side of the road to use in powdercoating. Works pretty good even if it's seriously ugly. It has the old rolling numeral digital clock on it. :D

DUDE,
that's a GE model 9 they only made them few yrs. i can't believe you'd trash something like that............ ::)

Sounds like my dishwasher story. I recently used the dishwasher to clean a few engine parts. It took a few runs, but the parts are now spotless. Unfortunatley, there is now a layer of sand all over the bottom of the dishwasher. It also got into the wheels on the racks and it sounds like sandpaper when I pull out the racks. Oh well, at least I'm single and I live in a rental. :D

If you stained the dishwasher, use TANG powder to clean it. Good for astronauts to drink and to clean the sink and dishwasher.
