New member here. Long time lurker. Just picked up a 2008 LX570 with 187K miles. I have a 500 mile drive from Orange County, CA to Tucson, AZ on Friday. Noticed a slight squeal last weekend. Noise went away once truck warmed up. Now it's getting worse and I can hear it when revving and during acceleration. I know it's most likely the serpentine belt and tensioner. Going to change it tomorrow. Should I just replace the idler while I'm down there? Anything else I should look at replacing?

Idler, tensioner, water pump and radiator fan all work off the serpentine belt. It could be any one of those things. The belt can also be routed incorrectly and that will make it squeal at startup.

I visually checked the belt and it looks good. Routing is correct and I don't see any movement, so I don't suspect it's an alignment issue. Looks like I'm getting a water pump and radiator fan. Might as well do it all now and not worry for the next few years.

Check to make sure your radiator has been replaced to the new style. It's a known issue and there are lots of threads here about it. I replaced mine in my '09 w/179k miles.

Sprits the serpentine belt with some water mist. If the sound goes away, it’s most likely an old belt that needs to be replaced.

I'm trying to contact Newport Beach Lexus to see if they replaced it. It was serviced there from 2008 - 2020. No mention of radiator replacement on Carfax report.

Post a close up picture of the upper tank after cleaning, especially the flat area with the production stamps. Will require removal of the core support cover.

The new radiator is very easy to identify.

because I have a trip today, I took to a shop yesterday and they confirmed belt and tensioner. All good now.

I’ll do that when I get a chance. Thanks for the tip.
