It's a fairly obvious squealing noise (like a slipping belt) that occurs pretty often but not every time when I clutch out of 1st or 2nd gear. It seems to squeel right about the time I depress the clutch. It's a desmogged 2F with stock clutch and tranny.

Everything seems to be running and shifting fine. I hear a noise but no other side effects.

Ideas?

How hard is it to change out?

Thanks for the feedback.

i did my throw out (plus clutch, pilot bearing and rear main seal). It prolly took me a good 10-12 hours in all. the worst was getting the rear main seal in and getting the tranny in.

I dug up this old thread to see if you guys thought inserting a self tapping grease zerk into the side of the throw out bearing could give it alittle more life......I need the truck right now and don't have the time to do it right.
I also figure I'd have to remove the zerk and cap the hole or the bearing would probably contact the it

Drilling and taping a into the hard race of a bearing is no small task. Getting the hole to miss the contact surface of the balls is even harder. I don't think you can do it.

just a recap: I trashed several standard drill bits .....then tryed a cobat bit...still didn't work, just too damn hard.Funny thing is after all that banging around and moving it seems to have "healed" for now.

The rear main seal took you a long time? It looks so straight forward in the FSM, what was the hard part?

The opening had a sort of sharp edge on the outside and each time we would put any pressure on the seal it would cut it. Then each new seal took a good week to get to my house. I eventually used an emory stone to smooth the edge out a little. To put the seal in i got it in so it would stay and then i put some big washers on the bolts around the seal opening and tightened 'em down REAL slow.

Who knows maybe you'll have good luck and it'll go right in.
