I need to use carriage bolts thru 1/8" sheet metal.

Is tooling to cut square holes in sheet metal something a small fabrication shop would have?

yes perhaps. or they have tin nibblers. or panel knock outs. you could use a jigsaw at home

Just figured out Plan B - Button head socket cap screws. That will have the low profile head I need. Fastenal has them up to up to 3/4"-10.

Don"t forget about Albuquerque Bolt, if you are looking for local hardware! They still don't have any computers down there, but they know where everything is! I have always found the pricing fair as well.

Depending on how many holes and how many pieces, I’d see about having a laser shop just cut the pieces for you.

you mean, like, without a battery or cord? that's so old fashioned...almost like using one of them motorless sawzall things...
