the car you want is a Toyota Celica All trac turbo

if you can find one.... they're not only rare they're freakin insane....

maybe a 93-95 Rx7 twin turbo coud be had in your price range...

maybe a 93-95 Rx7 twin turbo could be had in your price range...

Turbo Rotary powered FD RX-7's require tons of maintenance. If you want power levels over 300rwhp have a budget for a rebuild in your near future. Modified turbo rotaries need to be rebuilt more often than Pamela Anderson changes husbands.

3000GT VR4 is nearly 4000lbs. It may have 300hp+.... but that weight and the AWD driveline suck up the power. They are also heavy bitches in the corners. As mentioned they are not known for reliability.

If you want a performance car that handles with nimble characteristics, can run mid 11's on 91 octane, gets 25mpg+ on the highway going 80mph, and can brake like a mofo.... I would look into a V8 powered RX-7. Specifically an LS1/T56 powered FC (2nd gen) RX-7 ('86-91). They can be had for your price range and they are totally reliable and handle phenominal being only 2800lbs and retaining 50/50 weight distribution. Also replacement parts are cheap cheap cheap. There is nothing like smoking a V10 powered Viper, new Z06 Vette, Turbo Porsche, Lamborghini, or Ferrari in a little sleeper RX-7 :D.

There are some good candidates in here:

This car is worth about $12K:

Or you can buy my dry sump LS7 powered widebody FD RX-7 at the end of the year with about 700hp (91 octane and 1000hp on nitrous) that weighs 2800lbs and can eat up just about anything on the street and/or road course. Low 10's@140mph n/a on street tires with road race suspension. Mid 9's@155mph+ on nitrous I'm guessing. Offers start at $55K.

Cruiserhead, keep the prelude, that thing will carve up mountain roads just as good as the heap of a mitsu. SH preludes are a very cool car they have an active front differential that will actually drive the outside front wheel faster coming out of a corner than it will drive the inside front wheel thus when the car is pushed hard it will respond like a rear wheel drive car in theory. I worked for honda when the SH came out and that thing was the only front wheel drive car i have ever driven that will power on oversteer in a stock setup with out performing a scandinavian flick prior to the turn. I have a repair shop and you don't have enough money in the world to pay me to even allow a 3kgt in the door. Remember that in terms of handleing lightness is key. And the mitsu is a pregnant hippo in that department. As for the miata bash you won't think it is so girly when a turbo miata that some dude spent 6k$ all in, beats the living piss out of you down you favorite mountain road in either the 3kgt or the prelude.
All in all the SH is the way to go for you
no hard feeling on the miata bash
but i get a kick out of little cheap cars pounding on big money or technical wizard type of cars..

IMHO, there is NO better choice than a 1990-1996 Nissan 300ZX TT! I love that car! I want that car!

Honda = good. Mitsubishi = good for repair shop.

Man, the Prelude SH is one of the best handling FWD cars. All the controls are slick and it drives really well. It's also a very clean design.
I'm surprised you would think of downgrading to a 3000gt. That thing looks older and more bloated than Bea Arthur and about as refined... that was when it was new!

If you want to avoid the 'rice' factor, than go VW or Audi.. but you have a nice car already, just build it up a bit. They are not that common so it's low on the rice factor ;)

the sh is the only honda ive ever considered owning for fun. so between the two stay with the honda. but for a four seater bang for your buck id say go with a ls1 powered fire bird. better looking than the camaro and very responsive to mods. my z28 ran mid 12's with minor bolt ons and with my suspension upgrades carved up the canyons to

honda s2000. it handles great, the transmission is like butter with short throws stock and its a honda. 9000 rpms is pretty fun too:grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp:

X1000

S2000. Make sure to note that they changed the gearing 3 years ago (2005 model), so that you don't have to twist it so hard to get to the sweetspot on the powerband. The only car I have personally driven that was more fun was an NSX, and not by much.

The S2000's motor yields more hp per displacement than any stock motor ever put in a production vehicle (at least in 2005 when I read that particular review).

Any other suggestions are moot, silly and wrong. I have spoken.
