I am swapping out the dead a440f in my 89 fj62 with a slightly better (not dead) used unit. Does anyone know the procedure for removing the transfer case on a split case behind the auto? I currently have both the dead tranny and the good tranny setting besides each other on my garage floor and I need to swap the good transfer case from the bad tranny to the good tranny.

I did a search but only found a few small tips on socket size and advice to buy the fsm. Does anyone know of a complete write up?

Also I cannot seem to find a FSM for sale. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks

The transfer case has to be completely disassembled. There are a couple of writeups on this. Keep searching.

Also, there's an FSM available on line. A link to it is in the sig line of one of the members...don't remember who...sorry, but again...keep searching and you'll find it.

You can also buy the FSM in hard copy form. Do a google search and you'll get the 800 number to call to order.

Since you're going to have to rebuild the transfer case, call Kurt at CruiserOutfitters.com for the various seals/etc you are going to need.

Here's my t-case rebuild thread with links to 2 very good rebuild threads included in the first post.

Search for Spikestrip here in the 60's forum- he had a link to a downloadable version of the 60's manual. I'm not sure about the 62 manual, but the removal of the t-case is about the same.

It's been a while since I've seen you here on the forum- last time was when you were selling the blue 60, right? How long have you been in Midland?

It has been a while I had a grey 87 I sold 7 years ago. I just got the blue one, I just couldn't stay away...

Thanks for the help!

That's right- it was grey. Let us know if you have any more questions about the rebuild. Both Georg at Valley Hybrids and Kurt at Cruiseroutfitters really helped me out with mine for good parts and info.
