I was out in the Split Mtn area last weekend for an annual family event and was able to break away to run up Fish Creek and check out the Wind Caves (very cool) and play around on Diablo drop off.

My goal was to run Sandstone Canyon but we ran out of time (the risk of being with 15 family members with different agendas) so I had to settle for the drop off.

The top of the drop off was very rutted with deep whoops and was giving a few jeeps with the short wheelbase trouble. I got stuck behind one just below the worst section at the top who was spinning his tires in the loose dirt but finally made it. From a dead stop my LC climbed the last section with no problem making it look easy.

Man do I love these vehicles!

Here are a couple pics from Fish Creek, looking out from the wind caves, and one of my nephew stuck in a sand dune.

Cool, thanks for sharing..I know the feeling about how easy an 80 series makes a section look in what in his book, Wells describes as difficult....go figure...

Great pics, thanks for sharing.

Not trying to be a (insert your favorite 4-letter word here), but the Diablo Dropoff is a one-way (directional) trail - down. This is per AB state park. I love a challenge as much as the next guy, but lets obey the rules here.

Other directional trails are the Pinyon Dropoff and the Slot.

Looks like you had fun. I'll be heading out there next month. Cant wait.

The one-way direction that day seemed to be up.:D

When I got to the top there were about 5-6 heavily moded Jeeps, a 1970 stock Bronco, and of all things a stock Geo Tracker.

I asked one of the guys in the Jeeps if the Tracker had come up and he said not only did he come up this but he has been hanging all day with us through the Sqeeze, Heart Attack hill, Sandstone Canyon, and finally the Drop off.

I said your kidding. Nope he said who knew I could have spent $2K on a Tracker instead of the $40K I have in this Jeep and hit the same trails.

Looks can be deceiving.

Oh yeah - Im thinking how I can save for Hanna dual rear bumpers = $2000. Might as well buy another rig.. HaHaha

hey Dan

No not the same one.

Dan- I must have just missed you guys. I also ran into that group of Jeepers (2 heavily modded unlimited rubicons) the bronco, and Geo. I also ran into a guy with a white 94 LC, who had never heard of IH8mud, so i gave him the address, he was riding with a lifted 4Runner. You should have seen what the Jeepers did in Sandstone, crazy. I stopped the guy in the Tracker though and spoke with him about what a great wheeler those things are after watching Boe make easy of Coyote Cyn. I also saw a white 80 who didnt stop to visit, had a old style Slee bumper I think and roof rack w/ lights, also white I think? I thought all 80s dudes would stop to visit, oh well.

I have some great pics to post but dont have time till sunday.;)

:flipoff2:

I need to get out to A-B soon . . .
