Restoring my 74 USA spec cruiser cluster and was tempted to take the mechanism from a new (Saudi maybe?) kilometer mechanism. Would I be correct in thinking the two devices are identical in function with the exception of this worm gear?

There is that weird reed switch in also but I think I can swap that over to the new mechanism.

While the difference in miles and kilometers can be solve in the speedometer face simply by marks the odometer requires the dial to move faster for kilometers which is why the worm gear is finer threads.

If your old one has stopped working a simple clean and re-grease should get things back in shape. There are a few threads on how to do this if you're not sure.

dielectric grease is best? Need to rebuild my '69 cluster and its stuck for mileage.
