Speed Question

@pbr streetgang yes the 5 speed would be awesome.
After messing with the grimmjeeper website posted about i found these results if someone can tell me if im way off in my thinking tho.
Current set up: 37" tires, 4.88 gears, 4speed. @ 3000 rpm the program says 68mph
If I upgraded to a 5 speed: @ 3000 rpm 80mph. This is optimum cruise at 70 with room to pass, but costs ~3000 bucks for the tranny and everything involved.
Switched gears to 4.11, and kept the rest the same. I would be able to get 80 mph @ 3000rpm.

So my question would be what are the negatives to changing the gears to 4.11? I will do mostly road driving on road trips, sometimes trail rides or light off roading, and minimal rock crawling. Also ARBs front and rear if that affects anything.

Thanks for letting me pic yalls brains,
Patrick

with the bigger meats, it'll take more to get going. on uphill starts, it may require clutch slippage...whatever you give your rig on the top end, will come out of its bottom...finding the balance is always hard.

For reference, the setup you have now gives you gearing that's very close to the original setup, H42/3.70/28-ish. If you were to go to 4.11, you'd have a setup that was very close to 3.70/33. Plenty of people run this combination and plenty of people complain about it. For where I live, H42/3.70/32 (which is slightly lower than 3.70/33) was too tall for me, particularly in 1st. I blame the combination partly for the hastened death of my last clutch. The H55 has a lower 1st than the H42 in addition to the 5th gear overdrive. It makes finding that balance a little easier.

I'd swap in the H55 and drive it for a while.

When you can swing it do F&R ARBs and if by then you've decided the 4.88s are too deep swap in 4.11s.

That said with 37s I'm thinking 4.88 sounds about right.

Cheers
