I bought a new (for me, anyway) '95 Bruiser a few weeks ago. I have already done a few things to it with a friend's help, but he is in the middle of a domestic situation and I don't want to keep bothering him when he has a bunch of other things to take care of. I want to go to someone that knows these LC's inside and out to diagnose and take care of any major problems that exist. Anyone know a FZJ80 expert they can refer me to?

Welcome!
Try and give some information on this site about your problems and we can give you some information for you to start looking at. Assuming you have mechanical skills, tools etc. Otherwise try the dealer..

I saved this message from the 80slcool list, I believe. You might want to try this guy - never been there, no affiliation:

"Chuck,
Although I try to do most of the work on my cruiser myself.
There is a mechanic in Escondido who owns his own shop.
The name of his shop is Alternative Automotive, on Rock Springs Rd. I don't have the # handy, but I'm sure It's listed.
Owners name is Steve, give him a call, He is an ex-master mechanic from Toyota of Escondido.
Eduardo"

Good luck - let me know if you find anyone good.

:D
Hey that looks familiar
Steve is one of the few that I let work on my cruiser, but I prefer to work on it myself, no one to blame when something isn't just rite :whoops:

I don't really have the mechanical skill to work on this without some direct and serious guidance, unfortunately. The reason I don't want to go to the dealer is that Toyota charges an arm and two legs here, and I don't want some guy that has only worked on three Camry's and a Corolla in his life billing me $82.50 an hour learning about LC's on my dime. I want reliable information from someone that absolutely knows his stuff, and can get things right the first time.

I've been going to John at San Diego Trux in Mira Mar behind the pyramid. Prices seem fair and what he fixed stayed fixed. Also offered free advice on my lift kit but doesn't do them in his shop anymore. Says 4 runners and tacos can't handle it and then the customer cones back unhappy, so he just doesn't do it at all.

Flatlander, please post this on the pirate board :D

Randomguy, welcome
