I am a new owner and realize these are pigs on gas but I was trying to make sure I am doing everything to optimize my mpg's. My LC only has 60k on it and someone has already replaced the plugs in it. They used bosch platinum plugs, would switching back to the factory ones help at all. I am a strong believer in using only factory parts, but they arent cheep either. I just wanted to get some thoughts on this.

I just replaced my original plugs with new OEM at 135k miles and noticed zero difference.

I don't like platinum plugs bc their main benefit is long service life vs performance/ efficiency. A lot of people think the costlier items equate to better performance. Be sure to check the gap while they're out

I think money would be better spent elsewhere....i.e. real fuel injector cleaning, fuel filter, MAF clean, etc.

329 miles on one tank

14.1 mpg on sunoco 93 octane

23.35 gallons to fill on first click

mixed highway and around town

my best mpg yet

otherwise its closer to 13.1

on 285/75 r16 muds

2.5 lift

bior rear bumper swingout

Thanks for the replys, I will just leave them in there for a little longer. I knew these were bad on gas but didnt realize they were this bad. I havent checked mpg's yet because it is mainly my wifes truck and she does mainly city driving.

I get between 14-15 mpg on road trips with highway driving. I average low 14's in mixed city/hwy driving. Note, I have no roof rack. That my account for my higher millage readings.

Honestly the best way to reduce your gas consumption is to drive 65-67 mph . no additive no gas saving gimmicks or new spark plugs, filter every six months would not do anything , the key is drive it 65-67 MPH ish, and it’s O.K on MPG
good luck dude :):cheers::beer:

Keep your tires pumped up and take out any un-needed weight. I can get 17 in the summer time but that is with stock 275 tires and no 3rd row seats and no roof rack. The summertime gas mixtures will give you a bit better mileage.

I always use 91+ octane without ethanol. My winter mileage is around 13mpg tops.

X2.

Drove 700 miles round trip this weekend (about 1 tank each way). Stayed around 65 on the way out and got 16.8 hwy mpg. My foot was heavier on the way back (to no avail. Thanks kids) and drive through some heavy winds for 14.5 mpg.

Slow down, and keep the stern to the wind.

320+ miles per tank hyway, all day...but we don't buy'em for the gas mileage ;)...

I'm mostly stock 2,000 -100 series...no roof rack, YET!

I like NGK plugs in a lot of things.

I use Bosch in some engines.

But for my LC, I use the Original Denso Iridiums. Those things are amazing. They last forever, run clean, don't wear. The only thing not to like is the price. My current set has 140K on them. I really am thinking about pulling some out and taking a look. But it's nice to have plugs that go that long. I don't see any reason to do unnecessary maintenance. I got enough necessary maintenance to do!

I don't think they'll change your MPG though unless your Bosch are clapped out.

I had plugs replaced at the same time as adding Toyo MT 33s, lift, and EMS mid pipes + exhaust, rack, (no other weight), and my MPG is down to 6.5-8.5 in 100% city driving, 10-15 min trips.

Trying to figure out whats up as others seem to be *loaded* and don't get this bad.

Yuji. I have toyo mt's and they really took my mileage down. My signature has my setup and I get max 250-275 miles on a tank, going 65 on the hwy. I tend not to complain- if i cant afford the gas I shouldn't own the cruiser. :).

I've got only 7 tanks of fuel in my LC but I tried different speeds and octanes and my best results was cruise control set at 60mph...octanes didn't make a difference. I used the same brand of fuel for all 7 refills. My best avg was 17.8mpg and my worst was 15.5mpg doing 75mph.

Drafting semis (carefully) got me close to 19 MPG on a recent road trip. Otherwise, best truck I've ever owned and I could care less about MPGs.

I try to draft too but not behind a tractor trailer! They kick too much stuff up and throw a turbulent wind but by all means go for it.

Ditto here. Nitto trails and a ome 2.5" lift. I am lucky to see 250+ miles per tank. I recently swapped out the plugs to just new denso OEM plugs, no noticeable diff in mileage, however it does seem to run a bit smoother. I rarely cruise over 70mph and live in the Pacific Northwest, so wind, rain, elevation changes, and the occasional plowing through a hoard of mindless Birkenstock wearing hippies all comes into play regarding fuel consumption...
