I just thought I'd finish this thread off. Thanks to all that chipped in/.

OK where to start.

My pertronix is dead. I believe that was the original problem. I did have a worn distributor which contributed to some of odd issues I was running into. After addressing the distributor. and trying to set the timing, I realized the PO had an problem with the vehicle that I never noticed. This vehicle is equipped with a water proof dizzy. and in that there are 2 lines that run to the air cleaner housing. Well the PO had the ported vac hooked up to the dizzy housing instead of the vac advance. So I always had an off idle vac leak. this explains even when I thought all was well and running great why I could never get it to idle below 650rpms. And why it felt like I did not have the low end torque I should have. And why the timing marks would never line up..

After fixing the vac leak. I cold not get it to run I ran out of rotational room on the dizzy. The closet I could get it was 30deg BDTC. I then moved the pinion gear on the dizzy to compensate for the "leak fix" and viola , I can actually get her to idle down to 350rpm. Factory is 450rpms but, I'm running it at 500rpms and 12BTDC. I still have a slight off idle stumble but, that is from the vac adv. line...

thanks again,
bob
