Has anyone come across and/or thought about putting your spare tire in the trunk of the LC? I was thinking it would be cool to custom fabricate a mount that could take the place of the folded up third row seats.

The 90s Jeep Cherokee have that spare wheel snug against the left side (drivers side) of the trunk. And it's a really simple piece of metal slotted into a mount that holds the tire. Here's a Youtube Video of what I'm after:

I'm sure someone will chime in with specific username, but it has been done.

Just don't discount the forces involved in an accident. A 100-lb object will do shocking things to even quite solid mounting points when it tries to keep moving at 80mph and whatever it is attached to tries to stop.

Ahh! Yea, don’t want that

I had a Nissan Pathfinder with an inside mounted spare years ago and it was a huge pain. Loss of cargo area, loss of visibility, and useless for 5 tire rotations due to filth. Within a month of buying that vehicle I had the spare outside on a swing out bumper.

I removed my third seat and ive always thought its a shame not to try to interface with hardware for it somehow.
Im seeing a 3d printer tomorrow about some options for the anchor points and I also want a cargo cover.
Being able to stow two wheels would be cool.

Hey @kyle94109 hit up @FlightMedic178 I

know he has sold a few of these custom tire carriers on mud. I've seen his in person, really great design!

I purchased the LC 80 rack from Jason Harris/Ozark, https://ozarkoverlandoutfitters.com/shop/ols/products/interior-tire-carrier
and then made some custom tabs to bolt it to the bed where the seat bolted and then used a "U" bolt where the seat "quick releases"... had it powder coated and installed it. Tire doesn't budge... I also welded a little shelf to go over the wheel arch to put my recovery gear. putting in a LRA tank soon and didn't want to go with a bumper, had a swing out on a 4Runner and became annoyed with it over time... Pretty happy with how this came out. only thing that sucks about the LC200 is how the seat mounting bolts in at wonky angles... had to accommodate that.
