Washers aren't safe, but a 1/4" spacer is. Lots of tire/wheel shops have them.

thank for your answer .when sitting level and straight what is the recommended clearence from the steering to the outer part of the rim

Well, level and straight, or at full lock, the tire/wheel shoudl not be any closer/farther away from the steering arm.

If you have 1/4" clearance you will be fine. If I were going to space the rims out I would use some real spacers like These from Marlin Crawler

the 1/4" spacers scare me. Mostly because you are putting more stress on the wheel studs. These spacers give you more room. At first I was concerned about the AL spacers but I know a lot of people runnign them, and I have not heard of one problem with them. Torque the inner studs properly and they shoudl last a very long time..

im good in the back just that little in the front .just enough to drag the steering on the rim. i believe the brakes are fine.thanks for the help

BTW, Don't even think about washers.. Get the 1/4" spacers first..
