Just asked this question in a different thread and figured I'd throw up a more directional one.

Things have been mighty quiet around here lately, just wondering if anyone's making good use of the winter to get anything done on their rigs.

I've thinned the herd (sold 2 of 3) and am focusing on my 1997 w/Lockers.

Here's JackZilla and I switching some of the goodies (ARB bumper, winch, roof rack, etc.) off of my '92 on the '97

Slider Time!!!

Our buddy Josh does custom 4x4 Work and Fabrication up in Seabeck, WA. After a few discussions over some beers with him, the :princess: and I decided that my birthday present would consist of some custom sliders.

I'm pretty excited about the whole deal because Josh's background is in baja-style racing trucks and he's built some killer exos, bumpers, etc. for a myriad of different vehicles. My cruiser is his first, and he's definitely putting a bit of his background into the specs I gave him for my "not quite so hardcore" rock sliders.

Overall they'll be capable of supporting the entire weight of the vehicle (hi-lift test) and will be welded to the frame. The sliders themselves will be "boated" so they'll come up at an angle as opposed to acting as steps.

He added some "glide plates" between the tubes with some holes punched in em for looks. I like that they're different and couldn't be happier with his work.

In addition to the sliders we're already discussing a hybrid tube/plate rear bumper that he's got some great ideas for. It will feature two swingouts as well as integrated fender protection hoops.

When it's all said and done I'll be right around a grand even for the sliders and the rear bumper... I don't think you could beat that price anywhere!

Nice post. My T-100 got towed home tonight (torque converter, it think) I'll be driving Jolly Rancher till Ol' Blue gets out of the shop. Don't work Tuesday, and will probably be pretty bored. Did you have the opportunity to take off those visor clips? No biggie, it would just give me an excuse to come up your way. Also, did you yard off the safari rack from your '92?
I'll have the little one tomorrow but he loves cruisin.

Hey Ryan, I've got to tell you the entire sale went down so fast I completely forgot to grab the visor clips... as well as a few other choice items I had on my list. The best I could do was grab one of the new cats I put on her.

That being said, I've got a line on some interior parts for mine and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to grab a visor clip on the down low. I did check em out and they're not side specific, so it'll be easy.

The safari rack is going on the '97 when I get it back. Interestingly enough it actually fell on my head today, but that's another story.

I might be making a trip up to Budget Truck Wrecking tomorrow. It's in Auburn, but the last time I was there they had 6 80 series in back. Not sure if that's what you had in mind, but I'll be heading up there around 1000 or so so I'm back for class at 1330.

I better not take a one year old to a rust yard, but keep your eyes open for any 40's there. I'll text you the year of the clip. He may want to drive up there himself, so let us know what you find. It'll be a good day for a road trip.

25 Minutes at the salvage yard and I scored:

  • 2 x Disco Cup Holders + Mounting Hardware
  • 1 x 80 Series Sun Visor Clip
  • 1 x 80 Series Hazards Switch (95-97)
  • 1 x 80 Series Antenna Up/Down Switch (95-97)
For a whopping grand total of.... $20!!

There's one FJ40 there that's in pretty rough shape.

On top of my birthday being yesterday, I've got to say things went exceptionally well. In addition to the stuff I was able to grab from Budget Auto Wrecking in Auburn, I ended up with something else...

The :princess: surprised me with a new hi-lift jack!

And it was sunny out, so the pup and I got to hit the beach at Point Defiance.

2/9/11

Well, the fun continues! After selling a bunch of my old Army stuff and a few other things I've had on ebay (not to mention 2 Land Cruisers) the Cruiser fund has been looking decent. It's great what people pay for old uniforms and other cool guy stuff!

With the paypal account nice and topped off from ebay, I went ahead and ordered 5 x Treadwright Backbone M/T's in 285/75R16.

(Linky: 285/75R16 BACKBONE M/T (D) | Retread tires | Cheap truck tires | TreadWright)

I came home from class this morning to find these babies waiting outside my door for me!

YES!!
That's good stuff. I'd love to come home to a stack of tires. Kudos to your girl for the Hi lift purchase, she's a keeper.
I hate seeing old 40's in that condition. A moment of silence please..........

I'm thinking the long weekend will give you enough time to put it together and come show it off. Does she have a name yet?

I'm still in awe that your girl bought you a HiLift. I think if our ladies hung out maybe she'd rub off on Chelsey. Name the place.

It's true...

I have gotten a little bit more done.

  • My buddy finished/welded the sliders on
  • Had the tires mounted
  • Removed the flares
  • Installed a CDL switch
  • Wired up ARB blinkers
  • Installed clear corner markers (my amber ones were full of water)
  • Swapped my leather seats for gray cloth seats w/busmup808
  • Ordered a phh kit from 1fzephh.com

Little jaunt

Took her out to stretch her legs this weekend... wasn't anything preplanned or spectacular so I didn't send anyone any heads up. Sorry fellas

I'm still waiting on a few baseline items (brakes, axle seal, phh, etc.) before any major trips but I wanted to get out there and play with the lockers for a bit.

They still take a bit to engage sometimes, but I'm getting used to it.

Few more

JackZilla was there with Black Betty, in all of her snorkeled glory...

Treated this trip as a good route recon for future events. Can be a 2-3 day trip or more if we wanted it to, I'm sure.

It was cooooold. :flamingo:

Still not sure on a name yet. The :princess: likes Elsie ("L"-"C"). Works for me :)

beautiful

wish i was there. nice

where was that? Looks like a nice drive. might be up for a few day camping trip someplace like that later this spring.

We were around the Old Durr Road that runs between Yakima and Ellensburg driving the green dot road system.

When there aren't excessive road closures, you can drive the majority of the LT Murray Wildlife Refuge area over to the Wenatchee National Forest.

We had to do a lot of backtracking, unfortunately. It's difficult to get up to date info without just going out and seeing the place.

I've got a few trips planned throughout this next year to that area, we'll have to see about organizing some sort of SSC cruise and camp out!

Count me in!

And more!

Well, I was web wheelin' thinking about how responsible I've been with my cruiser fund (been sitting in the sock drawer in an envelope for a while) when lo and behold... I stumble upon a Trekking Oasis II roof top tent for sale on craigslist!

I was on a RTT rampage a while ago researching stuff on here and other internet sites trying to figure out which one I'd get "someday".

After all of my reading, I decided the Oasis series would have been the best for me due to it's lighter weight and smaller profile, as it'd sit down in my roof rack perfectly.

The overall construction of the Oasis is a lot more durable than the cheaper Chinese RTT's that were in my potential price range, which was something that definitely interested me.

On top of all this, the reviews from a few local users have been nothing but positive, and seeing as how there aren't any importers in the US anymore (that I've found) I figured I'd pull the trigger.

In my typical fashion, I couldn't wait to deploy the new tent. The :princess: is ever understanding, in fact she's asleep under the camo poncho liner on the couch, supervising :D

I tried to convince her we needed to sleep in it tonight... not sure how that's going to go, but at least she let me set it up inside
