SOS 4th plug stripped threads

There is a tap that you can thread in and while turning it, it bores the hole and re-threads it for the heli-coil. It has the 14mm threads at the beginning and then goes to a section that bores the hole and then another section of tap that is the size of the heli-coil. I use this on aircraft engines that are prone to stripping the spark plug holes. I don't know if there would be enough room to use it.
You can also drill and tap with the head still on as long as you have the room. You will need grease or some drilling compound that will hold the shavings so they don't go into the engine.

i've got a helicoil kit that my dad used for his 89 a while back ago that i could give or sell to you.

It's a 1-4 bananna I'd say, if you can get to it without pulling the engine, it's a 1, dunk the tap in grease so the shavings stick to it, and come out, and don't drop into the cylinder and eat the engine.

If you have to pull the head it's a 4...

careful when you tap it for helicoil....a local guy did one and it ended up threading against the valve....

He had to pull the head to replace the valve.

Good to hear that it worked...

Not allot of room....to work....

Its got 1/3 of the threads left, I'm gonna get it running and 1st thing get a mechanic friend to helicoil it, was hoping to put the RE block under the RET head and get better mpg but oh well...

Cant (well I'd rather pull the engine) the head off an RET. Fkn Toyota basically welded it on........

Speaking of that!!!!!!!!(drill and tap)

I was going to put an RET head on a good block I have but once again good ol' Mr.T got the last word, and left the oil pressure passage bung un drilled and tapped (full from cast), I'm not too keen on drilling that one out ;).....(and getting metal in the passages)

:mad::mad::mad:..I was just gonna swap'em and go, but nooooo.

Am I the only one with delusions of sniping Toyota engineers? :grinpimp:

I have too RET's and this ONE move would have had them both going and done right, oh well as they say back to the old drawing board...

note to self*: its a learning experience. :bang:its a learning experience. its a learning experience. :frown: its a learning experience. :o its a learning experience. ;pits a learning experience. its a learning experience.
