I have looked at a few threads about importing a 70. But i have a few questions. I am thinking about importing one from Canada. All the ones i look at are OVER 25 years old. My plan would be to fly up and buy it. Then drive it home across the boarder. Is that doable with the "over 25 year old" LC? What is the process for the over 25 trucks and wanting to drive it in yourself.

Definitely check the FAQ. Should be very easy if you do your homework. I imported my 1985 BJ70 and it took longer to deal with paperwork in WA state than getting it across the border.

Importing isn't that big of a deal, just be prepared to spend A LOT of time at your DMV dealing with people who don't know much if anything about grey market vehicles. I just imported a HJ75 from down under and it was a right hassle. Do your homework with your local Dmv supervisor ( not a counter jockey) and get your answers regarding paperwork and insurance as well as smog if necessary. Also depending on the state your trying to register it you might find it more difficult with vintage laws they are now enforcing. California is pretty much not registering imports now... You don't want to import a car and then have to keep it garaged cause it's unable to be rego'd.

Importing hassles vary greatly depending on what State you live in. If you have your paperwork in order, registering a vintage vehicle in the State of Georgia is a 15 minute process. :)

Before you get the truck shipped, go to your state DMV and find out what paperwork you need from the PO for the title transfer. It varies by province how they title the vehicles and the paperwork your state DMV may need to complete the title transfer can vary from state to state. I had to wait for the PO of the last vehicle I imported to send the proper stuff which delayed my initial registration. Some states also will require a LEO inspection and inspection to ensure that the vehicle is legit.
