SOR Tank install questions

So I got my grubby little hands on a SOR 22 gallon aux tank. Which as far as I can tell is the conffer tank. In this Aux tank there is no cut out for a fuel sending unit. My intention is to make this my primary tank, and ditch the passenger seat tank.

1. So has anyone ever done this? Any help or advice would be great.
2. Can I use the existing Fuel Sending unit, maybe just extend the float arm? Or Is there a better/easier option? The reason for this is I want to use the stock gauge and cannot seem to locate an after market sending unit with the correct ohms.
3. When I cut the hole in the tank is there a specific location it should be, like in the part of the tank that is dropped down 2 inches?

Those are the basic questions right now, I am sure I will have a ton more as I get into the project.

Two choices:
(1) If using the stock sender (extended), cut your hole on the right side of the tank (passengers side in the USA), back from the front wall of the tank about 5" to hole center. Locate hole side-to-side so that float is just off center towards the right side (so that it will not hit a center baffle in case your tank has a center baffle). Ideally you want the float as close to the center line as possible, that gives the most accurate reading without big sweeps in the gauge needle as you go around corners. Pay close attention when you drill the 5 mounting holes so that they do not send the float off into some unwanted direction. Screw holes must match the direction you want the float arm to point (towards center).
(2) You could consider one of the Digital senders like we supply with our Fuel Cell. Your 1976 would require the 120/17 ohm value sender, 9.5" deep. This type is merely a probe that goes down into the tank (near center line of tank), and it does not use a float arm at all. PM me for more info on this choice.

So lets say I used the stock fuel sender, how much would i need to extend the arm of the float?
