So yesterday was a long day for me.
I had to take my 3 year old for her dental stuff done in hospital since they had to do procedures under anesthesia due to age and being 3 root canals, 4 crowns and 4 fillings all in one sitting.
we got there at 11 in the morning, i went to park my wife`s brand new 2021 gx 460 we bought in august in parking garage on second floor right next to a 4 runner which was away from other tight parking spots. went into building and waited there till 1:30 was when they finally took kid to OR, wife then said to go get something to eat so i made my way to car at around 2pm. sat inside pressed ignition button and heard loud muffler sound i was like WTF opened the door and it was loud, i thought for a second and then suddenly thought it got to be catalytic converter missing for it to be this loud looked under and saw muffler pipe cut and cat missing.
the security guy was walking down the garage and heard so he came over shaking his head telling me this has been happening here pretty much once a week and they are getting bold now hitting during the day. Called 911 and they said cat converter theft is on the rise nationwide and you dnt have to wait for officer someone will call you to write report.
I asked security person if they have cameras around, he said only at entrance on first floor, i talked to property management company and they said they will have someone look through footage for those 3 hours and if police request they will hand over footage to police.
called insurance and they were good about handling, i told them from start i will only take it to lexus dealership for repair since it is brand new and i dont want any other shop to work on it, they agreed and set me up with my purchasing lexus dealer in dfw and they will give us loaner as well.
really bummed at this happening to brand new vehicle since it will show up on the record now as damage reported which will take a hit on the value of vehicle in future. contemplating on getting it repaired and sell it and order 2022 instead.
What can be done to avoid such happen in future? i mean it is outside easily accessible nothing much can be done to avoid besides park in tight spaces and very heavy traffic areas only.
this happened at dallas childrens hospital area.
