I'm working on a SOA FJ40 that has way to much body sway. The current rear shock mount are a inboard design, any good ideas for a better mount? I'm thinking about using the current upper bar mount and just run a vertical shock from that bar to the axle housing.

A more vertical shock will reduce sway but at the expense of articulation. SOA 40's tend to sway more on the road.

:hhmm: Perhaps a better solution would be to add a sway bar with a disconnect for the trails. Best of both worlds. Recall posts some time ago stating that a Volvo sway bar works well. Regardless of the source, The sway bar could be "sized" effectively to allow for inboarding of the top shock mounts allowing for a longer travel shock, more articulation and/or relocating the lower mount to the top or side of the axles housing again allowing for a longer travel shock and overall articulation.

I would put the lower mount right next to the springs on the axle housing. quick easy and will help

This rig won't ever see any real crawling, just trail running up in the San Juans. I'm not to worried about articulation in fact I need to limit the up travel bacuse the rear tire gets into the quarter fairly easily.

If you run dual shocks, shouldn't that give you the same articulation while reducing body roll? Should also give you a better ride over rough roads and trails.

How about something like this:

I set up my FJ60 the same way and it works really well.

Yup that's what I'm thinking, might even go more vertical than that. Really anything I do is a band aid for the fact that the springs are to soft and it's just something that you live with when doing a SOA:frown: It just drove me nuts when I drove this cruiser for the first time yesterday. Between the handling and the lack of good brakes it wasn't a fun drive at all.:steer:
