All you 45 guys I need some help, through all my research on the 45's they seem to be priced all over the place. My question is what do these things go for? I know it is a EXREMELY vauge questions but I guess I will through it out there anyhow, maybe some of you can post your finds and what they set you back, or even ball park em if your wondering if you over paid yourself.

I am looking high an low for a 45 and I have seen 40 to 45 conversion frames go for 3 to 4K with no running and no complete trucks on up to 20K ++ for really nice restores.

So my question, if a guy was looking for a entry level find, one that maybe runs now has a average body for it's years, maybe even a 350 dropped into it like happens so much. What should a guy expect to spend if he some day wants to do a complete frame off but drive her in the mean time?

5K - 10K - 15K?

Seems to me between 5 or 10 with the expectation of putting another 10 into her when I do the restore?

What do you guys think, also anyone willing to post there 45 and what they parted with to own them would be helpfull. Also any wisdom on how to track one of these down? Help out a 40 guy, who wants to join the 45 family!

Thanks!

By no means am I am expert, but I will attempt to get the ball rolling.

I personally paid over $3k for my wagon and put another $3-5K in paint, interior, sand paper, tools, metal and everything else it took to get my wife to ride in the cruiser next to me.

I didn't do a frame off, I just wanted a fun wagon that I am happy with.

SWB and LPB seem to go for more than the LV.

Here are my best guesses. My deffinition of restoration is typical amount of rust. ie seeing the street while looking at your feet. Bed having rust, but not destroyed. Prices will vary depending on existance of rust.

SWB/LPB needing restoration: $5-7K
LV needing restoration: $2.5-3K
Nice SWB/LPB: min. $10K
Nice LV: no clue

All this being said, I have not been in the game for nearly as long as most people here. Nor would I be offended if someone spoke up and said I was way off base.

I gave $7500 for my 78 lpb which might have been a little high, but I didn't have to go far to pick it up (450 mile round trip) which was a big consideration for me. I figured it could get pretty expensive in both time and money if I bought one where they seem to be more common and had to bring it all the way back to South/Central Texas.

For that, I got a truck that is very good mechanically, but it does have a little rust

Any pics? Found a good deal in Canada, (I think) anyone ever when through the actual importing of one of these, from what I have found in searches looks like a nightmare!

I am hoping for something in the 5 to 10 range, close distance would be great also. Sound like that is a ball park you guys were in as well, closer to 5 would be great since I plan on restoring but anything inbetween would probably be acceptable.

My '66 goes for 20k. Any takers? :D

EDIT: yeah like you're serious :P (and yes, it has an immaculate oem bed and tailgate, matching paint)

I know of one that is for sale for for $5500 and it needs a frame and a ton of body work:

This seems like the typical condition for 45's under 10 grand.

Don't let anyone tell you it is hard to import, complete bull****. I brought mine in last August and had no problems, very easy, actually brought 3 in....titled 2 and sold one already. I have brought several other vehicles in from Canada prior to that also.

Make sure when you cross you have a Department of Homeland Security U.S. Customs and Border Protection, "Entry Summary" document made up. They should know this, but sometimes it depends where you cross and who is working  I also bring with a generic, "bill of sale" form and have both parties fill it out prior to crossing. Make sure you have all the documents from the vehicle that are required in that province in Canada (titles, cards, etc...). Should be fine......

That's interesting, I was always told it was very hard to import from Canada. Thanks for the 411

MDH33,

How about more info on that 45? Is that frame bent or busted? Could it be straightened? Who do I talk to about more info? Not scared of body work, its the frame that I would like more info on? Thanks

Fj 40.5

I looked and looked for a FJ45 and nothign I found was in my budget. I ran into all the same problem$ listed above.

Although it is not a true FJ45. I picked this up off e-bay for $616.50. It a 74 FJ 40 that was profesionally bobbed. There is a guy in Massachusets that does this for a business.

It will be going on a FJ 60 frame to get the wheel base I want. Picking the frame up tomorrow.

I am thinking about trying for the one in Canada, I think I am in the clear as far as DOT and EPA but any one know about a import duty tax?

25% duty on sale price because of the GVWR and status as a truck and not a passenger vehicle. Passenger Vehicles are 2.4%.

Another import note that I learned is that on a day visit to Canada, U.S. citizen is allowed to bring back up to $1,000 duty free. So the duty doesn't start until the $1,001 dollar.

Imported my 1978 FJ45 LWB back in Jan 04. Absolute piece of cake. Total time in customs was probably 30mins. Just have your paperwork with you and I strongly suggest calling the port of entry that you plan to go through to get the requirements because I'm told each POE enforces the regs slightly different.

I want pics to see how well it goes, thought about a similar project myself

I know of one LV that has been seen on this forum, it received a very professional restoration, and sold for $75,000.00. Insurance appraiser valued it at $104,000.00. That is what I was told and I would like to believe it to be true. The LV was very nice. LV's like Matts and ones that TLC sell would definitely be more than 75K.

All depends on the LV, do you want original or modified. Original LVs with good sheetmetal including hubcaps are rare. Nice LVs that are restorable to a daily driver for the fun of it but that'll cost you a bunch to restore as original can be found for $3,000 to $4,000.

If your import is over 25 years of age dated from date of import minus date of mfg there are no required modifications. I've done a ton of homework - here's some good ref sites.
