I'm looking into getting tires i would like to go with 37 but the only gearing I am going to have is a sm465 (till I get new gears and lockers) so here are the choices I am looking at.
As of now I'm leaning toward 35X12.50R15 Goodyear MT/R (I know bob and Burl run them and like them.)

35X12.50R15 BFG Mud Terrain T/A® KM2
35X12.50R15 Goodyear MT/R
37X12.50R15 Goodyear MT/R
36x13.50R15 IROK Radial

tires

There was just a used set of 36 swampers for sale in Va, been a week or two so you might have to go a couple pages deep but they where here on mud.

You know you only need tires if you are going to drive that thing right ?

Does anyone have a set of 37's you could put on your 40 too see how it handles them before you make a decision on tire size.

Tires tie into the look I'm going for as it sets in my carport tent.
A new seal and a pilot bearing and the SM465 is ready to go in. With twin sticks. So I'll be calling you to come help me put that heavy B!&(H in !

Bob does. May have to give him a call. I'd really like to run 37's but don't want to break axles so may just run 35's for a couple of seasons then sell them and get 37's later.

I run 37s on the 40 without a problem but my 2F has been tweaked a bit. Go with 37s if that's what you really want or you'll be regretting your decision to go with 35s. If you ever get your 40 running you can bring it over and test the 37s from the 40 and the 35s from the 45 (bring Shiner).

Bring enough Shiner and you can probably take Bob's 40 home, he'll be none the wiser!

Good plan!

I ran 36" swampers (so 37" mt/r) on my 55 and it did fine with stock gears and the sm465. Buy 37s and be done with it. My 2f was completely stock minus emissions crap.

I forgot you had a 465 in the 55. Yeah I think I'm going to run 3thin the 40 and be done.

I luv my 35" BFG KM2s (315/75-16). Much quieter than my old KMs & the Goodyears. They've been great in the dry, wet, mud, & sand.

I had stock gears when I got first got my 36” Swampers. Now I have 4.88s which almost puts me back to stock gearing. The biggest advantage is that it made the sm465 behave much better for around the town driving.

But….. if I had a trailer and tow rig, I probably wouldn’t have worried about it:D

My vote would be for Irok Bias.

Irok bias it is! I'm going to order them tomorrow. 36x13.5x15 on 15x10 steel wheels. $1450 shipped from NTWOnline.

Does your 40 move yet (under its own power)? If not, those bias ply tires will last a really long time. Just trying to help.

I'm going backwards! I just took the trans out for the 465.
