yeah Azorcan? I saw one guy just gawk at it.
Thanks!

Prince Rupert to Burns 475kms on the upper half of the tank driving 90-100kms hour average and following all speed rules everywhere.
10.63L/100kms. I'll see how I do driving tomorrow.

10.22 burns lake to pg
10.83 driving quick, passing a little bit and lots of hills (pg to cache creek)

Super impressed. I am curious how having a turbo will change this if at all.
I am just pumped for more power on the hills. I take it real easy on the hills because I don't have an EGT gauge.
The last truck made me realize how hot it gets quick. hence why I drive easy on hills.

Hello,

You got yourself a nice truck.

Have you considered a Toyota snorkel? Last time I checked it was available from West Coast Cruisers; it would look great on your 77.

I am curious about you hill driving. How high (in altitude) are you going? Does your engine have a High Altitude Compensator?

It's actually available direct from Toyota here in the states. Must be special ordered as an "off line" order (manually ordered).

why would I order a factory toyota snorkel if I have a safari on the truck already.
I don't really like the factory one, plus the safari is better suited for water crossings.

Finished my trip down south for school this year. Did on in the 10Ls /100km range on the way down going easy on the truck.
Lots of waves and thumbs up from other cruiser owners.
Did pretty consistent 12L + - .5L /100kms driving through the Fraser Canyon, and getting my foot into it on the way home. Also had my sisters bike that should have been donated to the scrap metal gods. I blame that thing on my poor fuel economy:D

Picked up one of Jason's Cruisin Offroad's Skid Plate. Fits great. If you don't know Jason, he is on the forum here. This is his rig.
I can't wait to meet him and pick up some sliders for my rig.

Cheers Jason!

saw you drive through Smithers yesterday, very nice rig. i'm jealous.

I love hearing that. I am truly thrilled everytime I drive it.
Your prado I am assuming parked outside of the lumber store. I see it lots there during the summer when I am driving through on work time.

Curious about these Hills - I had a 1 HZ truck stock standard, 235/85s 16s and here in New Zealand we have hills, but no matter where I went or how steep the hill this truck would just climb like crazy, I never ran out of power ( 2nd Low 3000rpm) for really steep stuff, struggled a few times with lots of very loose stuff, but the truck pretty much could stay in 2nd, a couple of times right near the top had to go for 1st, but mostly it would grunt up in second. SO for trail work or on the road no matter - the temp gauge would just stay on half way - would never budge even on a really hot day. Once it got hot, when the viscous coupling on the fan failed, but it was OK to drive home. I found truck was happiest at about 90 klm per hour about 2000 - 2200rpm, if you pushed it over that, you used considerably more fuel. The truck had been used to tow trailers for a roofing contractor, so had no off road use, but had been "driven" Sold it with 250,000ks on the clock running like a dream.

what I think that he is getting to is the same trouble I have in mine and that is on long steep hills we must shift to 3rd gear and cruise at 80km or something like that while other vehicles or a turboed landcruiser like a HJ61 or HDJ81 can cruise up those hills at 105 in 5th

correct. There were very few hill that I dropped it into third for.
I usually cruise at about 2 grand just about everywhere.

Different beast comparing to an auto hdj81. It will change in time.

Dam If I would have read this sooner I could have met you somewhere for coffee and taken a look at it, oh well next time I guess!

Somewhat 81 hijack

When I went up the Coq last summer with all be it with stock exhaust and gummed up fuel pump when I hit the hills I flew past everyone, it was nice for a change as people flew by me on flats and downhill as I could only go 109km/h lol

I have since resealed my pump and adjusted the fuel screw as well as a 3 inch exhaust which really helps, was a nice ride to whistler a few months back.

hijack out!

I am pumped for the turbo down the road.
I get passed lots and its fine with me. Its rare that I pass in it.

Must admit it has been 4 years since the old truck, but I cannot recall to many problems on the open road most hills could be tackled in 4th if not 5th, but yes the occasional one would need third. I guess most of our hills have quite sharp corners so no matter what you are driving you have to slow down to 60 or 70ks anyway so you are in third then anyway. Not many hills have big long pulls that you could do those speeds up. A few are double lanes (Passing lanes) so you can bury the boot and get some momentum to cruise up them. I guess if you are sitting at 80ks in third thats when the overheating creeps in?? especially if you have played in the mud and the radiator core is full of muck??

I wish I had a picture of hungry hill.
Heck Rainbow summit just outside of town here in Prince Rupert
