Upon replacing the distributor cap and rotor on my 60 the bolts that held down the old cap were so rotted when i unscrew them they snapped off. So 2 of the 3 screws snapped. Now i can't bolt on the new cap and i am in a dilema. My 60 is my daily driver. What's the best way to remove the remaining screw part that is still in the housing part without damaging the threads for the new cap?

Do you have any thread sticking out? If you do just use pliers to back them out as there is no tension on them now. If they don't want to come shoot some PB bLaster on them.

no help on getting em out. But if you need to drive it, just put the one screw back in that good and zip tie(or something) the cap to the dizzy, as long as it don't move its gonna work fine...........till ya fix it right.

In my Christmas "stocking" was a little Craftsman broken/stripped screw extractor. Well...the darn thing works!
There is an especially handy little thing for small stuff that drills the pilot hole then an easyout on the other end. Agree with the PB Blaster. Go slow, real slow.
Thanks, Santa,

Me-

I would pull the distributor out, and put it in a vice where you will be able to look at, and work on things easier.

Good luck!

Well Luckily i was able to atleast screw in one of the 3 screws. I will have to zip tie it for now or atleast until have time to pull it out and fix properly. Just as a precaution after i screwed in that one screw i started the car and she seemed ok when i started and i let it run for a few minutes just to be safe. Will atleast one screw and some zip ties holding it on get by by for a few weeks?

as long as its tight, like when you had the screws in or very close to it what can it hurt?

Ok....to make it through i zip tied it down to create a seal. I am just at a lost on what to do now.

I will say she drives a lil' smoother with a new cap and rotor. When i pulled the old rotor out it was pretty worn.

And what the heck is PB Blaster ?

And Degnol, what exactly did you use again?

nice avitar :flipoff2: >:(

Get yourself a set of easy outs. They are a reverse threaded tap like tool.
What you do is drill a hole in the broken screw & then screw the correct sized one in. Because its reverse thread it will back out the broken screw. I got some from Craftsman once.

PB Blaster is a penetration oil like liquid wrench.

This is one example
