Hi everyone,
Based upon a thread that was on the Karmann Ghia forum asking how many Karmann Ghia's are left in the US, I figured I would ask how many 60's are left today in the U.S.? Does anyone have even a ballpark idea of how many are left? Would we say 100,000, 50,000, 20,000????

I know of 6 here in butte. that makes 8 so far. whose going to keep the tally....

1981.......2,027........FJ40 / FJ60
1982.......3,088........FJ40 / FJ60
1983.......4,805........FJ40 / FJ60
1984.......4,037........FJ60
1985.......4,740........FJ60
1986.......4,475........FJ60
1987.......5,008........FJ60
1988.......5,993........FJ62
1989.......5,064........FJ62
1990.......6,128........FJ62

From Cool Cruisers website. 20,000 sounds about right - 60's only. About 17,000 Fj62's.

So you think maybe half of those are still together (not in junk yards, wrecked, or disassembled), and 75% of those are on the road?

I'd say 7,500 are still driving around the U.S.A. Just a wild guess if only 20,200 were sent here.

On a slight tangent, my thought process is that as gas prices go up, these cruisers will start to be driven less therefore prolonging their life. I'm no strategist on cruisers, but it seems logical.

I would think 7500 is a pretty good guess. Maybe 10,000 but there can't be more than that on the roads today.

Okay...maybe not hundreds a day, more like 20. There are also tons of FJ55's here, just the other day we had our city impound auction and one was sold for 20.00 in running and driving condition. I know of 7 55's that are just sitting waiting to be snatched up. Also alot of Nissan Patrols. I know of an FJ40 that was bought new by my favorite little ski resort that has been chained up and hubs locked since the mid 60's used only for hauling skiers from a lower parking lot to the lodge. It has never been rebuilt.

ummmm....send a 55 my way please. I'll send you 20.00 cash, just pm me to let me know.

oh and i know of 8 in this area minus one that was chopped up for goodies.:frown:

Yup, there are a lot of cruisers in the roaring fork valley. I've got one. In fact Colorado, California and Texas must make up the bulk of the cruiser states.

just drooled on my keyboard;p

Don't forget about the valley of the sun. There are still a few 60's  roaming the desert floor of Phoenix.

well are we keeping a tally?

I have 1

maybe this should be a poll. have a choice for 62 series and 60 series. Then make it so everyone has a numerous amount of votes for those who own more than one. Then you can get a close number to how many are owned on the board.

This sounds kinda like the "x percent of all Ford trucks are still on the road today."

Yeah, more like the SIDE OF THE ROAD!!!

Would be interesting to spam each of the cruiser clubs listed on mud and have them send in a tally, just to get an idea. It could include known local cruisers that are not "active" members of the club, small possibility of double-counting but would make up for the ones that are missed altogether or are at used car lots.
