Is this even possible to connect the two or will i have to put the OEM air box back in when i install my snorkel? Are there any advantages of having the two connected if possible?

goatbeaver,

a colleague down here in Oz removed his cyclonic airbox (sold it to hoser on here) and installed the K&N system you are talking about.

His K&N filter and surround sits where i have my auxillary/2nd battery installed but to answer your question you'd need to fabricate something that you could switch in/switch out.

It's something i've been looking at for a while, but using my Aussie airbox.
Currently i am running the K&N filter in my existing airbox and i have a snorkel.

One of the guys on here here has done an airbox mod that allows him to switch - sorry i cant remember who that was.

i've had my eye on this for a while - Underdog Racing Development

but i dont need the air filter end...just the tuned length tube from the air intake and then i'd join it to my existing airbox.

Personally i think this one is better than the K&N and is similarly priced, but K&N has worldwide reputation.

edit: forget that it says Tundra.....same design for the same engine.

No advantage, but if you want to keep the piping, depending on the diameter you could use something like a Unifilter in the tube. But, I don't think those are meant to be the sole means of filtration.

I'd go back to the OEM airbox.

it has a filter.

in one of my very early discussions with hoser, (search is your friend) i was thinking out loud and wondering if it would be possible to fabricate a tube with a butterfly valve that i could switch to a cold air intake, and then when i was out and about, switch the valve to use the snorkel intake.

i assume that's what you are after??

it can be done...but custom fabrication is not cheap.
cheers

I guess i'll go back to OEM and sell the K&N cold air intake

i wasn't really looking for that. i was just wondering if there were any advantages of attaching the snorkel up to the CAI. Guess there isn't.

well you could argue there is a slight "ram air" factor....but i have had my V8 dyno'd at a very reputable place and they said the issue was the snorkel.

there's a recent thread n here about that.

My Safari snorkel will go. Later Safaris (ie current ones) supposedly fix up a few issues....no comment from me.

do a search with me (moooooooo) and safari in it.
cheers

Snorkel has a ram air effect above 30MPH. That is where I see a drastic drop in intake temps. I would install the snorkel if you have one and see if you like the effect. It "feels" peppier at highway speeds with the snorkel. I never had this effect with the deckplate, just more noise.
