I've always purchased safari, but the safari snorkel doesn't look to be directly compatible with the GX from what I can tell. TJM looks good but I don't trust their engineering. My main concern is rain entering the engine. The dobinsons snorkel looks cheaply made from what I can tell online and I don't like Ironman products as I've had bad experiences with them. Any insight here from anyone? Overall, I'd like to go with Safari as I trust them the most and have had them on 3 different vehicles without an issue.

Was it a straightforward install? Template and everything were spot on?
I've installed snorkels on my other rigs, but this one was installed, so sorry, couldn't tell you.
Here's an install for a 5 Gen 4R:

Are there any extra steps to reduce the chance of too much water getting in through the intake when rain goes sideways. 🫤 When we visit Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri to see family rain goes sideways down there.
Again, never had an issue. If you're really concerned and know you're headed for that kind of weather, you can simply rotate the head unit 180°, facing rearwards. It's simple to do.

Grew up in Iowa. Sideways rain wont be an issue and neither will a deluge. Those really only affect cold air intakes that aren't protected.

I would be much more worried about a deluge, for moisture issues. Never had an issue with a 'yota. In sideways rain, its the wind that is more dangerous, especially if you get a freak gust. Iowa gets non tornadic storms that exceed 120 mph winds. Derechos are awful.

Will do. It's supposed to be here Friday so probably tackle it this weekend.
From personal experience, that first hole saw cut in the fender is a nail bitter! First time mounting a snorkel, was putting a Land Rover Defender snorkel on my F350 crewcab overlander because there were no snorkels for those Ford trucks. From all my measurements, the Defender had just he right angles for the "A" pillar of an F350 and the correct side of the truck/engine bay for the air intake. So I had to kind of wing it. After all said and done, it came out perfect!
Just remember the age old adage, measure once, cut twice.... er, measure twice, cut once.
Be absolutely sure your template in correctly positioned.

I've done it before. Just not on a $50K + vehicle. :) I'm not super worried about it. Worst case scenario I have to find a new fender. I won't drill the pillar until the fender portion is lined up perfectly.

I've been eyeballing snorkels lately for mine. I like the look of the TJM or Lensdesign but have heard lots of bad about Lensdesign and not much at all about TJM. I may just get the Dobinsons.

I helped put an Ironman snorkel on a buddy's FJ and it was easier than we expected. I think the anticipation of cutting a hole through the fender is the biggest hurdle but also measure twice and cut once.

You can always replace it. And holes can be filled. Not a major deal really. But yeah, I wouldn't go with lenzdesign.
