Wondering if anyone knows why there would be smoke coming from my rear heater? It worked fine last winter.
I know my front heater core is leaking a little could that be making the smoke? It does have a antifreeze smell to it.
Anyone had this problem before?

smoke like burning stuff smoke..?

or a smoke like vapor? how hot is the smoke? does it come out immediatly?

mayeb try tuning on the rear heater fan wiht the heater water circit closed to make sure the fan motor is not burming up or getting hot and melt ing up all the stuff that has fallen under it or perhaps the carpet or seat foam...just thinking out loud on that but it could be possible i guess

love the color man. also love the Colorado Springs area. I spent 3 summers up there teaching geology field camp. we were down 115 and up Keeton Ranch road if you know where that is...

pin hole leak and the smoke is boiling coolant pufffs. That or the fan sucked in an old mouse nest of old cheezies and is burning?

I fsomething is busted on you rrear system let me know. i jsut pulled mine out and everuythign is in good working order...

I think* the only way smoke would be in the coolant system would be a busted head gasket and a pin hole leak in the rear heater...

* ask fj40jim, he would know the exact reason

It's not smoke it's vapor from your cooling system and that means it's time to visit your favourite radiator shop shop for a diagnosis. I had my my front core replaced and my rear heater cores rebuilt. Amazing difference. I can drive without gloves or a toque on in -30 degree weather!

If it's coming from your rear heater, it's probably a pinhole in the coolant tubes inside the heater unit itself... I had this happen to me last winter.
