HAve any of you installed a Smittybilt console in your 40? I need a new center console since the wrangler one sitting loose is basically worthless. I know Tuffy makes one but my rig is not nice enough to warrant the $300.....

Which model did you install, was it easy and did you have to do any cutting?

I have stock seats and a 4 speed in a 1975.......

Thanks in advance.

I installed one in my 1968 FJ40, but I made a custom seat frame for two bucket seats and a console. I love the console though. I got the one with provisions for a stereo.

Pros:
solid metal construction
Lockable
cupholders (not the best cup holders, but I have some)
Padded arm rest.
it is a rectangle (ish) so installation was easy (I got one for a Jeep CJ7)
It was the cheapest (4wheelparts.com had free shipping at the time)
It is lockable, and reinforced internally
Locks the stereo, if you choose one with the provisions
You could put a gallon of milk and a ton of other stuff in it.

Cons:
it rusted rather quick (but shes been on the beach topless quite a bit)
everything in the front is sharp, I occasionally hit a sharp corner while getting in or shifting

I wired mine with a 12V power port in the big section to power accessories, and I put a dual USB charge port in the stereo flap to power cell phones and other random unnecessary gadgets
There should be plenty of pictures between my Flickr account and my build page, both links are in my signature page below
