Folks,

My 3b in my BJ75 had a MAHLE OC67 filter installed when I bought the truck. It is tall and wide.

ToyoDIY says my 3b requires PN 15600-41010. That part has been superseded by 90915-YZZD3, which is 40% shorter and not as wide. I bought one.

I took off the old large Mahle filter and installed the new YZZD3 filter. It fits fine, but it's small. I want to put oil in the truck and run it today. Am I being silly to be worried that the YZZD3 filter is too small?

Can someone offer assurance that these smaller filters do a better job than the older, taller ones? I would have thought larger would have more filtering capacity, but I am also assuming that the filter media have improved dramatically since the 1980's, making it possible to make a better filter that is smaller.

@beno @roscoFJ73 and others, care to offer some insight?

Cheers,
Reinhardtius

Photos attached but probably do little to explain size differences. I'm sorry to say that I don't have a side-by-side.

When I installed a 13bt manifold I had to use a shorter filter as mine is upright and wouldnt fit the old tall style, Ive been using a shorter one for years, Wix 51085, its the same width though? Never bought a toyota filter so not sure?

The filter material most likely has a similar surface area inside. At your next oil change , open it up and compare it to the big one you just took off.
