Anyone know where I can find a tiny steel hawse about 6" in width?

All I could find are aluminum ones

Mounting space is limited, so if I can't find one in steel, I'll most likely have to buy a full sized one and cut-n-weld :meh:

You could always have one machined, BUT....

Having a fairlead that is much shorter than your winch drum will make spooling it a pain in the rear. It's my experience that the cable will not want to lay on the drum evenly, and will just bunch up.

There's almost 2 feet between the small fairlead that will mount on the X-member and the actual drum, so I'm hoping that will be enough of a spread to wind in evenly :hhmm:

The narrow fairlead will still cause significant issues evenly winding your line - even if there are two feet between the fairlead and winch.

Maybe while winching it would bunch up. When your finished with your recovery however, the 2' spread would allow you ample room to guide the winch line evenly back onto the drum.

Just my 2cents :p

That sounds dangerous to me. I would not want to be handling the winch line in between the bumper and the winch in such a confined space.

I had a friend in middle school get his finger caught in a winch line pulling a boat up into a boat house - by the time the winch was stopped his finger was all but pulled off and his arm was wrapped around the drum.

What bhmmapping said. Your fingers, your choice, but I will never put my hand between my fairlead and winch while winding in. Nuh uh, not me, not ever. That is a very dangerous way to operate a winch.
