will the stick shifter's inter change from a 420/465 I located a 10 spline 420 but it doesn't have a shifter.

Those shifter canes were available new from Novak and probably others as well. Also try the manual trans speciality shops like Anaheim Gear, Tourist Tansmission and the like.
Locating a 10 spline 420 is no big deal. They are all 10 spline with 1 rare exception!
A 10 spline 465 is harder to come by.
A stock Land Cruiser three speed shifter will work in your sm420 also. If you are replacing your old three speed transmission with the sm420, just plop your current shifter cane into the 420 and go. If you don't have a three speed tranny, post in the wanted section. Plenty of guys scrapping their old TLC trannies and throwing the whole thing away. This might be easier than trying to locate an sm420 shifter.
Shipwreck is right on the money. A buddy of mine did it and says the 3spd shifter actually works better than the stock 420 shifter. The 3spd shifter is not as flexible, making shifts more positive.
The stock 3spd shifter also drops into an sm465, same benefits apply

I did not know that that makes the it to easy. now I can just wait to see what else gets in the way.i have got a 465 with a 10spline output. but both shifting forks are busted. makes me worry about the rest of it.
Very likely because someone tried to remove the cover without putting the transmission partially into reverse first....
