I need some education on the different leaf springs for my 1500 # trailer. It comes with slipper springs from AUS and I'm thinking of converting them over to the traditional eye/eye springs with the same capacity. I'll also be converting the axle to an american made unit so that I can get electrical braking and standard bearing sizes.

Currently the trailer doesn't have shocks and it handles the bumps with ease. Will this be the case with a eye/eye leaf springs with a length of 25" typical 2,000 lb axle/leaf springs?

Can I assume that shorter leaf springs don't require shocks as they don't tend to bounce as much?

Thanks for any insight.

What's a slipper spring?

Good question! Here's a pic:

The slipper spring can be noisy unloaded as it can bounce some, otherwise with a load there shouldn't be much difference.

Your question on 2000# springs and shocks, would depend on the weight of the trailer, to light and the trailer will bounce without shocks.
