Sounds like fun! ill probably have my rear bumper built from 4x4labs for my Hundy by that time.
Are we gonna book some camp sites or off trail?

If you don't have sliders, you may want to strongly consider them before the trip. I wheeled that trail twice in a stock Isuzu Trooper (stock except for 32" tires) and bent the lower center sections of my doors (that would have been protected by sliders) to the point that two doors needed to be slammed to close them. I also needed to be winched through the top of the obstacle at the downstream end of the trail (The Waterfall?) in my Trooper.

The lifted Cruiser I was with, was able to drive the trail including the section where I got winched. He had sliders, 2" lift, and 33" tires. The Cruiser did end up on it's side at "The Step", so picking your lines is as important on this trail as any other.

There is another trail right by slick Rock that can be ran too, heard they just opened it back up after 4 years of government disputes....

Deer valley. Has anyone run this? Supposed to be rated a 6/7 like slick rock.

Maybe slick rock on Saturday and deer valley on Sunday.

Dang it... I'd join you if I wasn't doing Rubithon the following week...
I've been there on my Willy's but not in my 80. Good day of fun.

Deer Valley is still closed on the Eldorado Forest side. You can only run a portion of the trail south to north from Highway 4 in the Stanislaus Forest side, can't go all the way through.

Thanks jcardona!

Just spoke with the ranger that is in charge of that portioned of the closed section and he said that the deer valley section that is currently closed will reopen in the fall (after 5 years of closure) which is great for future runs.

I heard tale from a friend who works on land use issues that there is a property dispute between a private owner and the forest service over slick rock - apparently there is a stretch that crosses private property that doesn't have deeded right of way / easement. supposedly the forest service is working on a resolution, but probably worth calling the ranger station to make sure it's open just in case.

More info here. It's at the Alpine Lake entrance. You could always run the trail south to north and back out again if access is blocked.

Even when the north end of Deer Valley opens it will be subject to, "A seasonal closure from January 1 to July 31st would be instituted for the portion of Deer Valley 4wd trail currently closed under the Travel Management SEIS".

I don't see anything anywhere that says it's going to be open this year.
