I talked with Larry and Dion last week about this idea, and I would like to see about some feedback.

Basically like I've said here before, the 4Runner's now officially going to be the "Expedition/Travel Wagon" until such a time as I can get another wheeler, ideally a X-Cab P/U with a 3VZE to do a 3.4 swap on, or I finally just go get a Tacoma. *Note: The reason to involve Dion here is the guys a cabinet maker, so aside from traveling all the way to Oregon to have a family member help, who better to involve than him, bonus is he's w/ PMC, so you know he can pull templates from one of Larry's part rigs, and maybe even sell a couple around if I/We advertise for him?

Here's the info I found in Mud's Pages, mostly the 80-Series board, since apparently I'm so far off my rocker nobody really does these for the 89-95 Runner..

**What I'm thinking is flat across, or as close as possible to the tops of the fenders. A 2 boards front to back as supports/slots for RubberMaid boxes full of kit/tools/food/whatever, or just 1 board down the middle and 4 legs, and turnbuckles using the factory tie-downs and likely a couple additional bolts from the underside (spare tire well) to keep it all solid.

**What would be sweet is..

~Cutouts w/ tops so the speakers are clear and I can easily get into the rear pockets, or even remove a part and store Water or Coolant.

~Removable or collapsible front section to go over the rear seats when folded down to give more sleeper room.

~Bar Top Finish, with a nice Honey-Shade..gotta pimp the woodwork skills and all that.

**This has the appeal of easy storage in the garage,

Ultimately with an actual platform w/ supports I figure I am already running extra heavy springs so the weight isn't an issue, and I can have some (imaginary) level of security for the cordless power tools I use w/ work/etc.

Let the feedback and jibs begin! :flipoff2:

Roof Top Tent. It's the only way to fly

:flipoff2: Married+Newborn. Yeah, right..like I'd even have a spot to store one.

It is on my long-term list, like the 3.4l. That way if I'm gonna go pushing a brick through the air, I have the displacement to do it with.

*Yes, I know by the time I'm done the weights are really close, if not the RTT being slightly less.

I figure doing this along with selling my M.O.A.B. rack I can throw little things in a roofbox and still be able to work it all out. Drive to the spot, move stuff into the box, the little one in her sleeper to the front seat, and us in the back.

I made a template tonight out of a cardboard box from an XL Bike build. :D

For the weight the roof top actually aint bad. As far as the air resistance the roof top ala Gary and Ross have is very aerodynamic and cause little if any wind push factor. The roof top is also very handy for storing items like all your bedding, clothes, guns, so the space it creates in your normal storage area is quite significant. If I could get my rig 2 or 3 inches lower and on some 39's I'd probably go roof top however I have Emmy and she wants the big tent so for now I'm stickin with that.

how about one of those tent cot things larry has? I was thinking I might get the large one and just set it up on the roof rack or ground..

@Peesalot..

Exactly why we're looking at different plans. Has a Mama and Baby in our camp. Mama was more than content to go sniffing up close to where our heads were and scruff up against the tent.

A hammer and pot put a quick end to that though. :hillbilly:
