Whatever happened to this mod? The slee upgraded headlight harness used to be a standard. Now I never see anyone talk about it and it is "out of stock" on their website.

My drivers side headlight stopped working. I'm guessing it's a bad bulb.

What's the go to headlight bulb these days?

cheapest and quickest: 9011 HIR's in both the lows and highs. they are ~$10/ea. then properly AIM your headlights.

you need to trim the tabs on the ones destined for the low beam housing. you could put 9012's in the low beam housing, but the trimming is super easy w/ a pair of snips and you get more lumens. use the old bulb as a template.

i went this route b/c i wanted to keep the stock housings for appearance, etc. depo housings have an arguably better pattern (and functioning adjusters) and can support HID/LED modifications. and then there are all the quad swaps. all $$$$ i chose to spend on other things.

if you want to talk about oil, and really jump start this thread, just ask! :p

Wagner 9011’s from Rockauto for $8.88 ea. I usually buy 4-6 and mod them all at once so I always have a spare in the glovebox. 30-40% better light output than the stock 9006 but they burn hotter and don’t last as long but way better than stock. Keep the old o-ring from the 9006 and add it on top of the 9011 bulb’s o-ring to help the bulb seal in the housing.

I can walk into any auto parts store in my area and ask for 9011 HIR bulbs and they look at me like a deer in the headlights.

Than I tell them the vehicle and they have 10+ bulbs that will work from $15.00 - $90.00

I want to go the route you mentioned, I am thinking of buying these.

I know people have said don't go this route because it will blind other drivers. But I think with a properly aimed light they won't even seem bright to other drivers compared to all the new blinding headlights on the market now.

I have a slee head light harness on my current 80, and prior 80s. It is money well spent. You could make the same sort of relay setup, but they've done the work for you and it is neat and tidy.

I'll say it wrong because I'm not an electrical guy, but it lets the power flowing through light switch and high beam switch be low draw, and the high draw from the battery to the bulbs goes through larger wires via the relay. Somebody will correct me.

That's how we wired all the lighting circuits in our rally cars.

Back in the day the John Deere bulbs with a little trimming were the hot mod. Makes me I wonder if I still have a pair in my bulb bin?....

i bought mine from RockAuto. Wagner branded. I had other stuff to order and bought spares at the same time. that was 3+ years ago and haven't lost a bulb yet.

properly aimed headlights will not blind anyone. we are only talking 10 more watts and it is still an incandescent bulb in reflectors designed for that.

adding in a Slee harness might help, but i haven't felt the need for that. i used one on an older truck and didnt notice a difference with standard bulbs. one of the benefits of the Slee harness is changing the switching so aux lights can be more easily added, if you need that.

I had the slee harness on my 91 and before the harness my headlights would cause running lights and dash lights to dim and windows to run slower. After the harness the headlights didn't affect that stuff.

I put both the Slee regular and auxiliary harnesses on my truck, would never go back. I upgraded mine to zero shadow LED lights for the low beams, would never go back. Never needed to upgrade my highbeams as they were already awesome.

I currently have stock harnesses, 9011s in the bright position, and I'm trying to be patient for the low beams to wear out again, because they WILL be getting upgraded bulbs as well. The brights are definitely brighter than the stock bulbs, but they're far from obnoxious, especially considering the headlight arms race happening on the streets these days. I'm partial to the Hella LL (long life) series because it's always a hassle dealing with them - the freaking things always seem to fail at night. ;)

I carry a spare lighting system in my toolkit for just such emergencies. Those bulbs know when to blow to create the most inconvenience.

Dang, I finally found time to start actually looking at the headlight this morning and I realized both my drivers side low and high beam doesn't work.

Got me thinking something else is wrong than a bad bulb...... I will try swapping the existing bulbs from passenger to drivers. Hopefully it's something simple.

Well smacking the headlight housing made the bright bulb work again 🤣 🤣.

You can still get the Slee harness over at shop.cruiserparts.net, mine just came in today. I'm waiting on the 9011 bulbs I ordered as well from RockAuto to try those out.

Good to know they have it in stock. But $40 for usps priority shipping and $20 for ups ground with a tiny headlight harness is a hard pill for me to swallow 🤣 🤣

I almost bit the bullet on the shipping from cruiser parts instead of waiting for slee to get more inventory. But something felt off in the back of my mind.

A quick search of the buyer beware thread in the classifieds reminded me of all the bad stuff cruiser parts does. I won't support that company.

I talked to slee and they will get more harnesses but couldn't give me an ETA. They asked me to sign up for an email notification when they are back in stock.

So if anyone else is interested in the harness please sign up on slees website so maybe they will get a batch faster.
