I took off my skid plates covering the transfer case and tranny awhile back and know I can't find the bolts:mad: can anyone confirm that they are 8mmX20mmX1.25mm and how many I need?

You need 5 for the main skid plate. The length is not critical, I think you have it right. Be sure to put some antiseize on them; I had to redo some where the corroded bolts were wrung off by a PO.

You need five bolts for the large skid plate. Three on the drives side and two on the passenger side. The 8mmx20mm part is correct. I don't know what the pitch is.

Dang. Heartworm beat me to it. x2 on the antisieze. Also don't forget the split lock washer and flat washer...

I have my skid plate off (and have hopefully not lost the bolts!!) but I won't be able to look at them until next week. Will check back when I get home.

Does everyone else just use bolts from their local hardware store?

Yes and no. The hardware store bolts will work fine for this. However, I know that a 12mm socket will work with the OEM bolts. If I have a hardware store bolt, I'll need a 13mm socket. That means an extra trip to the tool box (I'm old, fat and lazy).

SOR sells various JIS bolts and nuts. I have some of these. However, I find that the specific bolts toyota uses for this application (skid plate) have an integrated, large diameter washer (almost like a fender washer). Since the washer is integrated onto the bolt, it doesn't fall off and get lost. So, I generally spend the extra $$ and purchase the proper bolt from Toyota.
