Howdy,

Finally getting around to putting new-to-me manifold heat shields in the ending bay. Got the old rusty ones un-installed, but the bolts aren't re-usable... rusted to nothing.

Like an idiot, I chucked the bolts without measuring them.

Would any of you happen to have the bolt size to hand?

I'm guessing m6/1.25

Thanks in advance for helping this dummy out.

Yes. :flipoff2:

Yeah, M6 X 1.25 is probably correct and short, maybe 12 or 15 mm. That's my guess.
Thank you! Much appreciated.

Here's to a great Saturday.

Well, made a run to ACE to collect M6/1.25 and M8x1.25. The M6 is too small, and the M8 is tight, meaning that it will only enter the manifold 3 or so threads deep... :hmm:

If anyone else should need the manifold insulator bolts, Partsouq came back with this pn:

91621-40812

went ahead and ordered these (7 in all) from Ourisman... "bolt w/washer."

Clean the threads.

this bolt is this below Nick , it's simply Violet Blue Solver Plated Mild Steel , JIS mark head #4 rating , a simple body Bolt more or less .... 91621-40812

its ONLY a Single SEMS flat washer equipped also , small Diameter washer too , a outdated JIS metallurgy part # original to the 3F-E engine 1984-1994

- will it do the job , sure-maybe ? the surface treatment has changed 3 times since 1984 , but part # stayed the same ...fyi

-
below is a much better modern age 2024 JIS option M6x12mm long , offered by Overland Metric , a fellow SUPPORTING VENDOR here om MUD ....

- i have been using these for many years and they hold up long-term .....

ALL the below spec's matters to me , and i have replaced ALL on my 2005 SUPER HILUX sema-concept build , GHOST and beyond .....

  • JIS B1187 B Hex SEMS Bolts with Captured Split Washer and Flat Washer
  • Marine Grade A4-70 (316) Stainless Steel
  • Superior to Typical A2 Stainless Hardware in Corrosion Resistance
  • Correct JIS Sized 10mm Wrench Size
this is the way ...........

I used those SS bolts with some high-temp Nickle anti-seize on the FJ60 exhaust manifold heat shields. Worked great. Had to remove them not too long ago, and they came out like butter.
Right on. Thank you for that.

i am not so sure that i agree the little white tube with no markings of any sort included in the .1mil clear umbrella bag with that 100pc wad of 16" black UV Rated zip-ties in the non-street legal / DOT Logo-Free H4 KIOTo -60P80 base-kits is technically high-temp Nickle anti-seize ...?
On page 3 of the KANJI instructions sheet , right below the all black-lines w/o any color code tracer stripes detail spec's it is stated , the included Cignis white
dispenser ( Contains 8% #2 Grade Nickle-Slag ) ...
i personally use only API Certified 100% Troy-Weight Silver Anti-Seize ......

it's totally worth those extra Nickels in your pocket at the end of the day ..

Not to derail this fine thread, but has anyone added reflective heat shield to the existing metal? Would this be a benefit while the metal shields are out?
Thank you!

I can’t see how it would hurt. Why not?

@ToyotaMatt

Silver Anti-Seize good up to 1800* F
Nickel Anti-Seize good up to 2400* F

Just got the new hardware today. Need to pick up a ton of that stuff 👍

@ToyotaMatt ... I meant a "tin" of that stuff... but, I guess that a ton would be even better... lol

Little older thread...but for posterity, the exhaust mani. heat shield bolts on the 3FE/FJ62 are M8-1.25. Not the M6-1.00 posted above.

Verified by me chasing my manifold threaded holes with a M8-1.25 "tap"/thread cleaner.

I can't believe all 7 of mine came out, they were crunchy, need new hardware for sure. I wanted stainless but the shortest that overlandmetric has is 16mm, I think the Toyo bolts are 12mm. Getting the OEMs 91621-40812 and throwing in some no seize goop.

I found some SS M8x12 (12mm hex) on ebay and used those with Never-seez copper and so far so good. Steel bolts are fine with plenty of copper Anti seize.(steel into cast iron)

Stock bolt part No is 91611-40812 replaced by 91611-B0812
Welp, I ordered sumthin'...we'll see what shows up. :hillbilly:

I believe it will be a bolt with a captive flat washer (not a lock washer). Should be just fine. Seeing as how the bolts seizing are an issue, I doubt you need one with a lock washer.
Yep. Mine were original, no lock washers, they haven’t seen a wrench since Japan…and yet they all came out 36 years later.
We’ll be fine.
