siphon gas

I want to be able to siphon some gas out of the tank to use in a generator.
I bought a siphon pump to avoid drinking gas.
The pump works. I tested it with a bucket and it works but when I inserted it into the tank it sounded like it wasnt in the liquid.
Tank is 3/4 full. How long a hose would this require.

has anyone else tried this? Any advice would be appreciated.

To get it fully into the tank, I would have at least 4 feet. If you do this often, I might suggest what we do as an idea. We got a great low profile plastic boat gas tank and we carry it on the roof rack. We use rachet straps to secure it. We have a hose with a bulb pump and we can fill either the FJ or any other toys. Cost us about $65 at west marine. This way we aren"t taking heavy cans on and off etc. Ours holds 12 gallons but you can get sizes for more or less depending on your needs. No mouthful of gas though !

There is a rollover valve on the filler nipple that may prevent you from siphoning fuel out of the tank.

Yep, most modern cars have this, making it a real PITA to siphon


I use an old Snap-Off fuel pressure gauge with bleed valve whenever I need gas


Just connect it to the Schrader valve on the fuel rail, start the motor, hit the bleeder and point the hose into gas can


Smaller engines might stumble if you bleed too much, but larger ones with high flow pumps usually show no effect at all
