I just pulled the front differential on my 1995 hzj75 as I have a leaking seal.
But now I see these little flakes on some of the edges of the ring gear and pinion gear....
There is also some very fine metal shavings stuck on some parts and there were fine metal dust on drain plug magnet.....
Should I be worried...?..?

Diff only has only done 45.000km.

Please see attached pictures....

I did find these that was stuck on the inside where they drilled holes for the 8mm bolts..
Surprised they did not remove those at the factory

I hate finding things like that but it looks okay to me.
I would get a file and take off the flakes that are hanging on to the gear (just to make myself feel better).

the crown teeth look nicely crisp. how often do you use the front diff? 10% - 90% of the time? If not too often just change the oil. If often, I would still just change oil and keep running until there is more obvious wear, personally. Have seen much much worse and still running. Do the spiders wobble much? Make any horrible noise?

Diff stuff is exy, no way around it. Dodgy shops may swap the front diff to the rear if the same size and claim it is rebuilt. As the front diff is no way used as often as the rear unless constant 4wd.

Must admit too, I often over worry!
